Richard Robinson, a qualified solicitor (non-practising), has worked in private practice as well as for the regulator. In over ten years as a senior adviser with the SRA’s Practice Standards Unit, he designed and implemented practical compliance and risk management systems and procedures for use by firms. He has worked closely with several hundred firms of all types and sizes, to help them develop effective compliance systems and has built trusted and ongoing relationships in the process.
Having worked on the development of the SRA’s regulatory arrangements over a number of years, Richard has a deep understanding of what the SRA is looking for from law firms in terms of regulatory compliance.
He trained and supervised SRA regulatory compliance staff for many years and provided them with ongoing technical and policy guidance to enable them to conduct on-site compliance inspections at law firms. He has written and delivered lecture materials on a wide variety of regulatory compliance issues.
Richard has given advice on referral arrangements to the SRA’s Standards Committee and has developed and led an SRA-themed visit initiative on referral arrangements. He has a thorough understanding of the compliance issues that surround firms’ relationships with introducers.
His work in private practice, together with his on-site work with firms across the spectrum mean he has a strong awareness of the commercial realities facing law firms. Therefore his advice and support is always practical and realistic.
Richard speaks and writes fluent German. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family, is a keen artist, runner and a lifelong supporter of Blackpool Football Club.
